AGE GRADE RUGBY

Age Grade Rugby refers to rugby from U7 to U18. From September 2016 there are Regulatory changes to rugby within clubs, schools and colleges to provide a consistent competitive offer to all players irrelevant of why, where or how well they play our sport.

The Rules of Play use a ‘stepping stone’ model and offer progression and challenge for players season by season, stating the furthest players can travel towards the 15-a- side game at each age. This ensures our game remains Player Centred and Development Driven. The changes to Age Grade Rugby have been implemented to provide the right competitive opportunity at the right age and the competitive menu reflects the fact that motivations of children may change as they progress on their journey towards adult rugby.

The competition playing calendar will provide a model which supports inclusivity of all players, guards against overplaying and underplaying and limits conflict between club and school/college rugby maintaining choice for players to play with their peer groups.
