COMPETITION RULES 2018 – SUBJECT TO CHANGE DEPENDING ON ENTRIES

 

1. THE COMPETITION

The Competition shall be called The Cronk-Cunis National Under 23s Invitation Rugby Festival, hereafter referred to as the “Competition”.


2. ENTRANCE
Entrance to the Competition will be by invitation issued by the Competition Committee for teams of players who will have achieved their 18th birthday, and who will not have reached 23 years of age by the 1st September 2018 and who are former pupils of an invited school.

3. CONDITIONS OF ENTRY
Entries will be accepted on a ‘first come, first served’ basis: up to the capacity of the grounds. The Entry Application Form, together with the Entrance Fee to be determined, should be sent to the Competition Committee by 6th August 2018. Failure to comply with this condition may result in the invitation being withdrawn.

4. AWARDS
Competition Awards 15-a-side format:
1st Place – Cup Winner: Cup (to be returned after 11 months), a Plaque and £150 prize money.
2nd Place – Cup Runners Up: Plaque and £90 prize money.
3rd Place – Plate Winner: Salver (to be returned after 11 months), a Plaque and £80 prize money.
4th Place – Plate Runners Up: £50 prize money.
Competition Awards 12-a-side format
1st Place – Bowl Winner: Bowl (to be returned after 11 months) a Plaque and £125 prize money.
2nd Place – Bowl Runners Up: Plaque and £75 prize money.
3rd Place – Vase Winner: Vase (to be returned after 11 months) a Plaque and £65 prize money
4th Place – Vase Runners Up: £40 prize money.

5. RULES
All games will be 10 minutes each way with a 3 minute half time.
Rolling substitutions allowed.
Two competition points for a win and one for a draw. Pool positions (if they have the same number of competition points) will be determined by:
a.  Greatest points difference.
b.  Greatest points for.
c.  The toss of a coin (if still a draw).
In the Place decider games, if at the end of play neither side has won, they will toss for choice of ends and will play further periods of five minutes. The first side to score will be the winner. After each five minute period ends will be changed. No extra time will be played in the Pool matches. Extra time will not be played in the pool games.

6. FORMAT 15-A-SIDE (MAXIMUM SQUAD SIZE 22)
On arrival teams will be put into pools of 4, and will play as follows:
1030    Round 1    1 v 2
1100    Round 2    3 v 4
1130    Round 3    1 v 3
1200    Round 4    2 v 4
1230    Round 5    1 v 4
1300    Round 6    2 v 3

After a break the following games will then take place:
1400    Quarter Finals x 4    (9th – 16th place)
1430    Quarter Finals x 4    (1st – 8th place)
1500    Semi Finals x 4    (9th – 16th place)
1530    Semi Finals x 4    (1st – 8th place)
1600    Finals x 4        (9th – 16th place)
1630    Finals x 3        (3rd – 8th place)
1730    Finals x 1        (1st – 2nd place)

7. FORMAT 12-A-SIDE (MAXIMUM SQUAD SIZE 18)
On arrival teams will be put into pools of 4, and will play as follows:
1030    Round 1    1 v 2
1100    Round 2    3 v 4
1130    Round 3    1 v 3
1200    Round 4    2 v 4
1230    Round 5    1 v 4
1300    Round 6    2 v 3

After a break the following games will then take place:
1430    Semi Finals x 2    (5th – 8th place)
1500    Semi Finals x 2    (1st – 4th place)
1600    Finals x 2        (5th – 8th place)
1630    Finals x 1        (3rd – 4th place)
1700    Finals x 1        (1st – 2nd place)

8. ELIGIBILITY OF PLAYERS
8.1 The Competition is intended to promote Old Pupils rugby. To this end, each XV player squad comprise of at least ten bona fide former pupils of the invited school. In a 12-a-side game this is reduced to eight former pupils
8.2 A preliminary list of the names, dates of birth and school, etc., for each of the players must be registered with the Competition Committee and it must be updated immediately prior to the start of the Festival. Each Team must also nominate a Captain for the Festival.
8.3 Any player sent off during the Competition will be subject to the standard Disciplinary procedures laid down by the appropriate RFU Regulation. Any such player will be barred from the remainder of the competition. A replacement player for the squad will not be permitted, although 15 players from the depleted squad may start in any subsequent match.

9. REPLACEMENTS
At the start of each game the Captain shall nominate the 15 players to start the match. The remaining players may be used as replacements in accordance with the current relevant RFU Laws and Regulations.

10. REFEREES
Referees will be appointed by the Competition Committee.

11. OTHER REQUIREMENTS OF ACCEPTING CLUBS
9.1 Each Team shall provide a nominated touch judge. This should not be one of the registered players.
9.2 Each club should have a ‘change’ of shirts available. In the event of a clash of colours the first named team in the tie will be responsible for changing.

12. DISPUTES AND APPEAL
10.1 Any dispute or appeal should be brought before the Competition Committee immediately after each match and its decision will be final.
10.2 The Competition Committee is empowered to vary any and all of these Rules at any time up to and including the day of the Competition if considered (in its absolute and unfettered discretion) to be in the interests of safety, scheduling, equity, or for any other reason.
